Gloria - PLEASE reread the question! "Should any Town Council person speak or vote on the BOE…Read More budget restoration question IF they or their immediate family work in our schools?""
We have come to expect BOE employees to come out every year.
The ETHICS question comes when members of Town Council are employees and/or have immediate family members that could be effected by the budget decision.

There is no conflict of interest at all. The employees who spoke stand to personally gain nothing…Read More more in salary or benefits if the budget is increased. They want the money restored so that students can be better educated in this town. And these employees are taxpayers, too. They don't lose their right to have an opinion because they work in the schools. In fact, perhaps their opinions should be MORE valued because they are actually aware of what is happening in the schools and see firsthand what is needed to educate our children (unlike many people who haven't set foot in our schools in years.)
I used to have a bumper sticker on my car that said, "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance." Enough said.

Terms should be four years. The only people that want 2 year terms are the people that want to…Read More micro-manage everything. They are the ones that claimed this was a great idea back in 2006. Now we know different. Even one of the biggest promoters, Sandra Feld who now sits on Finance Board agreed they should be four year terms.
Everyone should also realize that DENNIS CONROY is not experienced or qualified to speak about anything except being a bully and a puppet for the old guard Southington Democratic Town Committee. He is ONLY there to oppose any changes. He is part of the GOOD-OLD-BOYS system. Smoke filled rooms and meetings in bars? Go away Mr. Conroy!

Absolutely great news for Southington! Full speed ahead!
Contrary to what some of the "ghost…Read More hecklers" tried to imply back in January, we simply asked the CT DEEP and federal EPA to be reasonable in remediation when it came to PCBs that were buried between two stone surfaces and were NOT being disturbed.
And that is what they finally agreed to.
BIG THANKS to Chris & Ed on the Committee, Town Council people who talked to their Hartford contacts and Mr. Brumback, Dr. Erardi and their staffs that assisted behind the scenes.

Commission member Dennis Conroy is wrong when he states "He also questioned the learning curve,…Read More saying those elected should already have a knowledge of the job they’d be taking on."
Dennis Conroy is not put on Charter Revision Commissions to make things better for the people of Southington. He is put on there by the Democratic Town Committee to argue and hinder and block any progress and improvements proposed.
Mr. Goralski both spoke in favor of changing BOE & BOF to 4 year terms because we have watch closely and seen the problems and difficulties (and inefficiencies) of the learning curve over the past 4-8 years.
Citizens and voters should be wary of party appointees protecting the good old boys network.

please explain why the fire department continues to bleed money and nobody is doing anything? there…Read More is a 100 page retort about how incompetent the chief is and how badly managed the department has been for years and they are coming back for another $100,000 again? how can all those deaf, dumb and blind old people on that fire department supervisory board continue to sit there and tell us everything is fine?? my tax dollars are being wasted every day! how soon can charter revision take over control from Bobby Sherman and restore order and confidence to the town? unbelievable!! Make this stop!!

Passing a school bus stopping to take on or discharge children is illegal. It's dangerous and a…Read More threat to the kids. Those who scoff at the fines and somehow blame the BOE or the Town for the heavy fines for traffic violations have no excuse and deserve fines. They really are crossing the line by arguing about what is done with the revenue instead of applauding the needed safety measures taken by the town and the Southington Police Traffic Department.

Hi Guys - a point of clarification - the town, not the BOE, gets the money from tickets. It is used…Read More as a special revenue to the general fund. Currently, the town receives just under $360 per ticket for passing a standing school bus. However, due to needing to witness this or video evidence (which this will provide), the police department is only able to issue a very few of these tickets each year at the moment. By adding this program, the expectation is people will drive safer or pay the price and the increase in tickets will offset any costs associated with fees for Student Guardian to administer use of the cameras. In the end the town could actually see an increase in revenue, be it slight. Also, at 0.6 violations per day on average - the three month total from January to March - that would be 108 tickets per school year (assuming people are willing to keep paying to drive past flashing lights) as there are typically 180 official days in a year in the state of Connecticut. These numbers aren't likely to remain as high once people realize the cameras work, however.
Have a good weekend everyone!
