Heavy Metal Crime: 39,000 Lbs. Stolen from Southington Business

Two Bristol men have been charged with stealing about $25,000 of tool grade material and selling it for scrap.

Two Bristol men face first-degree larceny charges after police say they broke into a commercial business and stole 39,000 lbs. of tool grade metal between March and April, later selling it at a scrap yard.

Gary M. Desrochers of 157 High St., Bristol, Ct. and Nicholas B. Marin of 100 Broad St., Bristol, were arrested on a warrant on May 15 and charged with larceny in the first degree, conspiracy to commit larceny in the first degree, conspiracy to commit criminal trespass in the third degree, criminal trespass in the third degree, conspiracy to commit criminal mischief in the third degree and criminal mischief in the third degree. 

Southington police said Desrochers and Marin entered CV Tool at 44 Robert Porter Road during March and April 2013, making away with more than 39,000 pounds of metal valued at about $25,000. The theft was first reported on April 8.

Both were held on a bond of $100,000.
