New Look Traffic Lights – But Be Prepared for Delays

The state Department of Transportation is installing LED lighting at many intersections in Southington and work in now underway – but be prepared for some minor delays as the work is completed, officials said.

The state has begun an effort to replace traffic lights at locations throughout the community as part of an effort to enhance safety and improve visibility for drivers. These efforts won’t come without some minor delays as work is completed, however.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is replacing traffic signal LED’s at various intersections within Southington, work that began Sept. 1 and will extend through Oct. 15.


“An alternating one-way traffic pattern using traffic control will be utilized on a daily basis to perform the construction work,” Southington police said on the department’s Facebook page.

“The contractor will not be allowed to interfere with traffic between 6 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. or between 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, nor between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.”

Work will be completed at the following locations:

  • Route 10 at Clark Street
  • Route 322 at the Rout 10 Connector and Old Turnpike Road
  • Route 10 at West Main/South Main/Main Street
  • Route 10 in downtown at Old Turnpike Road
  • Route 120 and School Street
  • Route 10 (Main Street) at Columbus Avenue ad Berlin Avenue
  • Route 10 (Main Street) at Center Street and Riccio Way
  • Route 10 at High Street and Merrill Avenue
  • Route 10 at Curtiss Street
  • Route 10 at the Exit 32 interchange with Interstate 84
  • Route 10 at Southington Plaza and Interstate Park Drive
  • Route 10 at Southington Plaza and Randy’s Restaurant
  • Route 10 at Aircraft Road
  • Route 10 at River Road and Patton Brook Plaza
  • Route 322 at Rout 120 (Pratt Street)
  • Route 322 at Canal Street
  • Route 322 at Clark Street
  • Route 10 at Loper Street
  • Route 10 at Mulberry Street
  • Route 229 at West Queen Street
  • Route 322 at South End Road
  • Route 10 at Wal-Mart Plaza
