Twice is Nice: Blue Knights Baseball Advances to Finals

Southington High School advances to its second trip to the Class LL finals in the past three years after defeating Trumball on Tuesday afternoon.

A complete game from Joe Rivera and a pair of first-inning runs helped set the tone as the Southington Blue Knights held off Trumball Tuesday afternoon to earn their second appearance in the CIAC Class LL finals in three years.

Trumball (19-8) looked strong in the first and took a one run lead on three hits including an RBI single by Casey Mack, but Southington (20-3) bounced back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning on a Matt Sirois RBI double and Andrew Goralski single. The team would add two more in the fourth inning.

Rivera then settled in, allowing just three more hits and a run in the sixth as Southington cruised to a 4-2 victory.

The victory gives Coach Charlie Lembo and the Blue Knights their second appearance in the finals in three years. They will take on the winner of the game between No. 6 Amity-Woodbridge and No. 10 Fairfield Prep on Saturday.
